Biologic joint preservation procedures

Under my care at King’s College Hospital Jeddah, we recently performed two biologic joint preservation procedures—BMAC (Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate) and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injections—for a patient originally from Macedonia, now residing in Switzerland. This case marks one of our early applications of these “interesting first” techniques at our unit, focusing on regenerative strategies for managing osteoarthritis. Speaking on this occasion, Dr Rizwan (Chief Governance Officer) said, “These interesting innovative techniques are what makes us one of the best private hospitals in Jeddah & the whole region”

The patient presented with persistent knee pain due to moderate osteoarthritic degeneration, despite conventional treatments from other medical centers. After detailed imaging and clinical assessment at our specialist orthopedic institute, we opted for a dual approach: PRP to modulate inflammation and BMAC to introduce mesenchymal stem cells, supporting cartilage health and joint repair.

Both procedures were done in a single session under image guidance ensuring precision at the orthopaedic institute of King’s College Hospital Jeddah . Post-treatment, the patient reported marked improvement in symptoms and functional mobility. This case exemplifies our ongoing shift towards advanced, minimally invasive biologic therapies in joint care at the orthopaedic institute of king’s College Hospital Jeddah which is one of the best in the region for innovative minimally invasive techniques by some of the best internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon in the country.
